2012 Semester Two
Semester two is away to begin, the development of the dissertation and testing. hand ins are complete for both Robin and Colins proposals and both hand ins of portfolio work for Brian and Belindas class.
Lectures and tutorials begin this Tuesday, plans for testing has begun as per the plan completed for Robins class. Keep updating the blog as much as possible for all the modules and progression of work
7th November
The hand in is this week on the 9th. I have had further meetings with Peter in depth to deal with my project aim and objectives I have set for the hand in and a brief over-view of my abstract and rationale.
The proposal is pretty much finished however I will be proof reading several times prior to Fridays' hand in

Exhibition presentation
30th November
This week has a few things going on; I have more meetings arranged with Peter to dicuss my aim and film choices and moving forward to completing the hand in for the 9th. I also have had the exhibition presentation today.
The presentation went well I think, we presented clearly as a group and individually and got reasonably good feedback. It was also interesting to hear what space we would be having for our expositions in 4 x 8.
I have re-thought what I am going to be doing for the exposition, instead of showing a film I aim to show the progression of the work to provide support to my project aim.

AIm close to being finalised (for now)
23rd November
The aim is now a comparative study into two of the Coen bro's films, the films are yet to be decided but are looking likely to be between; fargo, no country for old me, barton fink and blood simple.
The objectives will need more updating along with the project map to match the new aim - they wont need a lot of change however. Look at the prof practice lectures in more detail, especially about the mixed methods research and approach to exhibitions

Aim update
16th November
Continuation with project in terms of defning aims and objectives, arranged meetings with Peter to run through more ideas. My aim is sitting at doing a comparative study between two films, it hasnt been identified whether they will be two films of the same directors or completely different ones, and what specific films - to be decided by next week at the latest.

Crit Week
8th November
This week is crit week as part of the pitch and crit sessions. For this I had to prepare: my learning contract and proposal for my honours project (both drafts versions).
These highlight what my project title is, my aim, objectives and methodologies. The basis and understanding why I want to do this project for a year and why the university should let me.
The crit went better than pitch week, my ideas still have to be refined further and I need to focus on identifying my objectives and relate them to the methods betters to answer my aim. The aim at this moment still isn't defined but I do have a specific area I want to work within.
This next week or so will be focusing on getting my aim finalised and push through with the lit review for the hand ins on the 9th December

First hand in
Monday 31st October
Today is the hand in for the module AG:1086 - Concept Development. This can be found on the right hand side under pages labelled Concept Development AG1086.
This page aims to contain all the information that I have researched in development of my project so far, trying to underpin the context and rationale behind what I want to research and investigate for the year.
Providing details of journals that I have read, clips that I have watched, sections of books and anything and everything that I have found relevant to supporting my project to date

Pitch week
This week was pitch week. I had to present my project so far to some of my peers, one other fourth year, two third years and two lecturers.
This takes up the week, and my pitch days were Tuesday and Wednesday. On the Tuesday we listened too the third years and how they are getting on so far with their respective modules and their plans for the forth coming weeks and gave feedback. The Wednesday was my turn to pitch my project so far.
The pitch started off well and I felt like I was getting my ideas across well, not quite sure what happened, maybe a lack of preparation but it certainly could have went better. However I don't feel my ideas were fairly listened to without severe critique of them at this stage, especially being just the pitch. Last years pitch and crit week was very informal and the fourth years presented their works in a manner where we just had an open discussion as to their potential research question.
I had slightly more prepared than this, few small pages of bullet points to run through, and for the first ten mins or so I just chatted about my research subject then I was interrupted and lost my placing, looking at my notes led to confusing myself and then we just discussed my project as a whole. Unfortunately I didn't take much from this session, quite the opposite leading me to re-thinking my whole project approach and topic. I am really interested in this area however and want to continue along this road.
The only ting I did take was to think more about the critical framework and the rationale more, and what underpins my project as a whole, other than that not too much else apart from being quite deflated. Maybe more time and reflection I'll think differently.
I have now re-worked my question after further reflection from the pitch session to more the investigation of sound and narrative. How does it drive it forward and how I will research it and the rationale behind it.

Pitch Prep
October 7th - Week 3
This week was dominated by finishing my mind map, objectives and personal statement for professional practice and preparing for my pitch presentation next week (wednesday).
I got the project pitch task uploaded by the friday and with my updated mind map and objectives along with the personal statement.
In Belinda's class for concept development we were placed into different groups to discuss certain ideas, how we research them what we research and how we get them across to our peers. This helped in working towards the pitch presentation. Being able to bounce ideas again with fellow students leads to more insight for personal ideas.
In Kennys class we discussed further his approach to working on projects like this.
Within Roberts class we looked at trying to define out approach to the pitch further and hone in on our ideas even more.
Next week is pitch week so over the weekend I plan to finalise how I will present my pitch and go over defined mind map and objectives.

Progress
30th August - Week 2
This week I refined my idea further. I had a informal meeting with Kenny and some other students to discuss our ideas in more of a broad sense and see how indirectly they relate to one an other slightly. The meeting was also a stepping stone on how I can move my idea forward and be careful that I wasn't getting close to just reviewing a technique.
In other tutorials we worked in a group for Belinda's concept development and came up with a poster of ideas that inspired up (see picture in concept development page.) We also watched videos of last years computer arts project artefact's, which despite not being directly related to sound production helped me see what level I would have to attain even at this early stage of development
With Robin we went over in more detail objectives relating to our project aim/research question which helped a lot as we all have to create these. Regardless of the question being a computer arts student, vis com or sound production we all personally have to produce this by the end of week three.
In Kenny's tutorial he discussed some of his life experiences creating projects and presenting them, his approach and ultimately his outcome. This also helps with my idea of moving my idea forward, there will be days when I hit a brick wall and then there will be a break through, it's making sure I keep going to get to the break through that is important.
I downloaded a few journals and took out some more books to read as well as starting to look at writing my personal statement .

Welcome to hell!! Week 1 - 21/9/11
Welcome to 4th Year (hell) 21/9/11
Honours Project - Question (will be put up when ready), ideas, thought processes and topics looking at studying and researching Mise en Scene as a film technique and the corralation with audio on film. How does the use of audio and other characteristics effect audiences involvement viewing a film or particular scene.
The first days have been daunting to say the least heading into the academic year and what is expected. Already having a idea of what I want my project to be has been helpful and the first few lectures have helped me realise what I still have to do in terms of defining and refining what I want to research for the year to come.
So far I have had introduction lectures in 3 of the 5 modules for the year. They have been for Professional Practice, Research and Development and Pre-Production. All have offered different insights for me and have been helpful already.
Informal Meeting with Peter O'Hare
Just had a short meeting with Peter O'Hare about my Idea for my project. Very informal but very helpful. The first of the tutors opinions I have asked, also planning to set up a short meeting with Kenny for a chat to gauge his response on my potential project.
At the moment running with the idea of researching into Mise en Scene with audio as the main research characteristic is as Peter suggested such a vast topic that would take forever to cover and whilst it would be very interesting it'd be very difficult.
Trying to hone in on similar topics and what they can offer as a project too is what Pete suggested. Such as using certain directors, certain films or genre of films. This helps narrow down the potential research areas, help gather data that would also lead to being more specific data and help me come to a better conclusion.
