Exhibit and the end of the year

The final part of the submission was the exposition at the ADDS. I was placed in the HMC for this. This was a interesting experience and did let me display my work and findings to the public. It also signalled the end of the year.

I received an award from the University specifically my course for my level and standard of work. This was made possible by the use of all the modules, lecturers and support throughout the year.

I will take away a lot of the experiences and project development and management specifically. I am pleased with the final result of my dissertation and project. I felt I did answer the research question of it being a comparative study to help develop a greater understanding of sound design on film.

Again, my thanks go out to everyone who has helped and supported me throughout this process.

Supervisor meeting

14/2/12

After discussions with James, we agreed to show examples of clips that I have chosen and any work done on them either composing or designing. This could include cue sheets, also maybe discuss the feedback from the focus group discussions (mock)

We talked about the importance of room tone, this is crucial for the scenes I am using. It is all about setting mood and tone with sound - a good technique James suggested: fileter white noise.

Read chapters in the sound design book, from vibration to sensation - the physical effects of sound; pages 63-97

Pitch feedback & plan for this week

Today's pitch was with Peter. This went well, I presented my ideas and project to date. I was abel to discuss it confidently and talk about key points where I want my project to be in the coming weeks and any stumboing blocks I felt that might occur.

  • I also discussed my mock tests, how I went about doing this and what I showed. Peter's feedback also helped in terms of looking to my dissertation and make sure that what I talk about in the dissertation i'm using with the tests to support what I am trying to say
  • How an I testing narrative
  • How am I testing perception
  • How am I testing emotion
  • How and what am I using to identify the successful relationship
This weeks plan is to further work on the composition and sound desing of each other clips, this will add to the final artefact that I will use in my exposition. This was also discussed in the pitch - where I will film the testing and show them as well as the tests and the documentation that was the result of the testing.

Ptich and Crit

Pitch and Crit week this week so supervisor meetings are suspended. I aim to show work regarding my media tests this week, as well as my critical framework and glossary of terms that I am using within my dissertation.

I also have the audio file recorded for the mock tests, this will be presented as well. I am still waiting to hear back from James regarding interviewing any of his work colleagues.

Results/Testing

31st Jan 2012

Update

So far I have two meetings with James Scanlan, my supervisor for my honours project. These meetings have been very helpful - they have let me Identify in more detail what I should be focusing on and pointing me in the right direction if I seem to be going off track a little.
Details of the meetings in docs as progress reports will feature on the side bar page menus

I have had all but one result now for the first semester and I have just received my grade for my project proposal for AG1087 - Research and dissertation methods. I was very happy with the result A18, adding to my already A18 and A19 for concept development and professional practice. I am currently waiting on my pre-production grade still.

Testing

I have began to do run through of my focus group testing and taking recordings of them, these files will be linked to the blog also through sound cloud which will also be set up as a tab on the side bar page menus. These files will document the focus group discussions and interviews I plan to do.
